I am your typical conservative family man. I am a member of the NRA and a veteran. Just there is one problem I like to read. Since I am being installed as a Thegn over this Yule and as such being made a member of the “War band” I have been reading through Sun-Tzu’s manuscript “The Art of War”.
Master Tsu’s manuscript has been proven time and time again on the battlefield. As such what I have been reading has made my heart heavy. It would appear that the arrogance of the US military has no chance of winning the war in Iraq. The enemy is able to perform harassing maneuvers to get the US military to expend its treasure in
wasting maneuvers to find an enemy that does not exist in a traditional sense.
Let me explain. “Warfare is the Tao of deception” In regards to your enemy; “Display profits to entice them. Create disorder and take them. If they are substantial prepare for them if they are strong avoid them if they are angry perturb them be deferential to foster their arrogance. If they are rested, force them to exert themselves. If they are united cause them to be separated. Attack where they are unprepared go forth where they will not expect it. These are the way military strategists are victorious they cannot be spoken in advance. “
In Master Tsu’s time the “cost of mobilizing an army of 100 thousand was 1000 pieces of gold a day” and he warned that a long campaign will deplete the coffers and ensure defeat no matter how good your opponents weapons or how skilled your generals’ “No country has ever profited from protracted warfare”.
“One who excels in employing the military does not conscript the people twice or transport provisions a third time.” One tactic that I know is that our military reservists have been called up 2 and three times to do a job that they have already done once. Since there are no provisions to secure from the enemy the supply division is forced to transport supplies multiple times to provide the Army with the food and equipment that they require.
“The state is impoverished by the army when it transports provisions far off. When provisions are transported far off the hundred surnames are impoverished”. That my friends is the true cost of warfare. The cost of war is not paid by the army fighting it or the people conquered but by the people back home struggling to survive. With news of depression era tent cities forming in larger communities and a crumbling economy I personally don’t see how our forces are able to fight an ideology called “Terrorisim” with an ideology called “Democracy” ideologies do not fill the coffers they only drain them, Especially when the people that you are trying to “free” have been killing each other for millennia anyway.
As of this date the cost of war is almost 475 BILLION dollars or 577,156,743 ounces of gold a great deal of treasure taken from the US people and spent on a war that will not produce profit or raw materials. So I hate to say it but the only solution is to withdraw and cut losses. Screw the middle east let them kill each other off we have problems too ya know.
It would appear that we have received our Yule miracle. Steph went out to feed the last 2 bottle babies and found them suffering of Hypothermia. She brought them into the house were we worked at a feverish pace to get their body temp’s up and get some milk in to them. After an hour of trying and one close call we were able to get their temps up and now we have 3 fat happy little patients in the house.
Patient one is a chicken that got attacked by a cat who had a rough night last eve but is making remarkable progress.
Patients 2 and 3 are the last 2 bottle baby goats who are in their respective boxes in the bathroom that has its own independent base board heat so that they can be kept at 90* for their little boddies don’t have to use that much energy to keep their body temp at 104. We are also feeding them less but more frequently swapping a warm water/electrolyte solution inbetween formula bottles to keep them hydrated in the elevated heat of their temporary surroundings.
So here I sit with a fire in the freshly swept wood stove with a chicken pecking gently next to me Yule pizza in the oven and a fat happy content farmer Carl.
