China / Burma Disaster Relief

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

I am not taking any compensation for this post and have not taken any compensation for any post’s since December.

By now you know that disaster prep is what I do, Teaching people to fend for them selves so that they don’t have to rely on some politician to help them. Well the people of China and Burma don’t have the luxury that we free people of the United States Have. But there are ways around this red tape. Save the Children is one of the few charities that are allowed by both the Chinese Government and the Myanmar Junta to operate in their territories.

A forum that I am a member of, Called Zombie Squad is holding a fund drive to provide disaster relief to the peoples affected in these tragedies. Zombie Squad is a St Louis based non for profit disaster education\relief group that provides education on preparing for disasters along with a unique entertaining approach. After all if you could survive a zombie outbreak you can survive anything. Most of the members are Redcross volunteers, police, fire, ems, or just regular Joe’s that want to learn how to manage in the event of a Tornado, Earthquake or Katrina scale disaster.

Zombie Squad’s mission has always been to educate the community to prepare for natural disasters. We also assist communities in their time of need when disaster strikes.

This fundraiser will follow the same design as our previous Hurricane Katrina and Greensburg Kansas Relief fundraisers.

With Hurricane Katrina, we raised:
Amount Raised: $2686.00
Number of Donors: 100

During the Greensburg Kansas disaster, we raised:
Amount Raised: $2701.00
Number of Donors: 92

I’d like to see no less than $5,000 raised for this one. I know we now have the membership base to make this a reality and really make a difference for the literally millions of people suffering from this storm.

The funds for this drive will be donated directly to http://www.savethechildren.org/ via check at the completion of this fund drive, which will last 30 days. Save The Children is one of the few charities which are actively giving aid in both the country of Myanmar and Sichuan Province in China.

NOTE: 100% of your donation will go directly to this charity with Zombie Squad paying all of the associated fees we will incur for this drive. If you donate $100, every cent goes to Save The Children and in turn, to those in need in Myanmar and China.

Why not just donate money directly? There’s nothing wrong with that. If you don’t feel comfortable donating to the ZS fund then please don’t let that stop you from donating directly! However, You get cool stuff if you donate with us:

1) The first 100 to donate $20 or more to the ZS collection will receive a special edition ZS dog tag, similar to the Katrina relief effort tags.
2) If you’re a member of our discussion forum, you’ll get a cool banner under your name until the end of the year.

Or you can send us a check or money order payable to Zombie Squad (no cash). However. Be sure to e-mail us at charity@zombiehunters.org so we know to expect it.

ZOMBIE SQUAD
Attn: Myanmar/China Relief
P.O. BOX 63124
ST. LOUIS, MO. 63163

Make sure to mark on the check that it is for Myanmar/China Relief Donations.

We feel it is important to come together and help out those whose lives have been affected by this tragedy. This is our opportunity to show what we as a group can do to make our world a better place.

If you are not comfortable donating to ZS please do not let that stop you from helping out. However, be sure to investigate before you give.

Thank you for your help. If you have any questions at all regarding this relief fund raiser, please don’t hesitate to email Gunny at charity@zombiehunters.org

If you want to donate via pay pal Click on the banner below

The Voluspa

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

I feel that is most appropriate to start with the Voluspa, as such everything has a definitive beginning and end however all Spae is up for interpretation. I would also like to point out that the actions predicted in spae although difficult are changeable. Therefore, it is very well possible that ragnarok will not happen as foretold if the key events leading up to it can be altered. Only the Norns know all that is going into the tapestry of life and the patter can change at their whim. Although it also heeds warning that after the terrible battle at Ragnarok that the earth will be reborn by those that hide deep within the roots of Yggdrassil, as the children of the gods rebuild the other nine worlds led by Baldur.

The last discussion I partook of the Voluspa had been derailed as we hit a HOLY CRAP moment going through it line by line when in stanza 14 when they mention of the dwarves and specifically Gloi. The Heavner runestone in translates as a protection to or from Gloi. About the time the Vikings were tearing across Vinland, there was a large earthquake in the New Madrid seismic zone that would include modern-day Heavener. As such since the Dwarves ring in the earthquakes, it pretty much guarantees the existence of Viking settlers in Oklahoma. I just wish that in the early 1900’s they wouldn’t have desecrated graves looking for Indian artifacts as although it was noted that there were items of no known native American tribe they were sold off as souvenirs as Native American or just destroyed.

But I digress the Voluspa can be found in the beginning of the poetic edda

New outlook on life

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

Well this july I am going to be turning 30 and like that country song says…

I think I’ll take a moment, celebrate my age
The ending of an era and the turning of a page
Now it’s time to focus in on where I go from here
Lord have mercy on my next thirty years

Hey my next thirty years I’m gonna have some fun
Try to forget about all the crazy things I’ve done
Maybe now I’ve conquered all my adolescent fears
And I’ll do it better in my next thirty years

My next thirty years I’m gonna settle all the scores
Cry a little less, laugh a little more
Find a world of happiness without the hate and fear
Figure out just what I’m doing here
In my next thirty years

Oh my next thirty years, I’m gonna watch my weight
Eat a few more salads and not stay up so late
Drink a little lemonade and not so many beers
Maybe I’ll remember my next thirty years

My next thirty years will be the best years of my life
Raise a little family and hang out with my wife
Spend precious moments with the ones that I hold dear
Make up for lost time here ,In my next thirty years

In my next thirty years

So that has led me towards being all introspective and contemplative on what the heck is going on. I basically decided that for the rest of my life I am going to have fun. If that means being odd(er) just to make someone else smile I guess I am going to have to take that risk. Since I have come to this realization of being I have finally been able to describe true happieness.

Picture if you will sitting on a park bench in the springtime you are watching some water being all calm when a guy in a Santa suit comes up on a skateboard throwing confetti and passing out Guinness. He gives you the thumbs up as a marching band comes charging through to play a waltz as you and the love of your life go skipping off into the sunset.

Yeah I’m that fucking happy

:D
