Scared Straight?

Monday, February 18th, 2008

Well today I got up went to work and in the middle of my boring day, Steph calls me up flipping out. So I get her calmed down to the point that she can tell me what happened, when she says. Your son was playing with fire and burnt your chair. Brief pause and I reply can you say that again?

So I keep my cool because I have not thought of this contingency plan. The kiddo is on house arrest to his room until I get home and then I start to formulate my plan. Obviously he didn’t get it the last time we had the little don’t play with fire talk. So how can I reach him. And that is when it hit me pictures of burn victims. So for the next 20 minutes I spent finding the most graphic pictures of horribly burnt people that I could find. Some pictures of people with disfiguring facial burn scars and several of cadavers of people that did not survive a fire.

Armed with my cold collected dad tone and enough pictures of gore to make Freddy Kruger cringe we had the little talk of cause and effect and how would he like to live permanently disfigured like the poor souls I had pictures of. Or be found by his fire fighter father burnt to death in his house all because he thought it would be fun to play with fire.

I think by the end of it he was so traumatized by the images I showed him that he will either never play with fire again or plan B will have to be placed into effect. Plan B consists of us calling the sherrif and having him arrested for arson. At the threat of that he was crying that he didn’t want to go to jail or be burned up. Lets just hope that he is the visual learner that I think he is and got the message.
